The Ocean takes a whole new musical direction on Heliocentric. This new album is much more diverse than the previous three albums. Heliocentric ranges from soft songs featuring piano to heavy sludge tracks. Although fluXion and the second disc of Precambrian have been described as atmospheric and symphonic, both are still rather abrasive and come nowhere close to the level that Heliocentric is on. The lyrics of this album revolve around a debate between science and religion, from the perspective of science. A follow-up album, Anthropocentric, which takes the religious point of view will be released later this year.1) Shamayim2) Firmament3) The First Commandment of the Luminaries4) Ptolemy Was Wrong5) Metaphysics of the Hangman6) Catharsis of a Heretic7) Swallowed by the Earth8) Epiphany9) The Origin of Species10) The Origin of GodMyspaceDownload
Aaaaaaaaaaand, I'm back. Today we have Powerwolf, an extremely cheesy, yet oddly entertaining, power metal band. With song titles like "Resurrection by Erection," "St. Satan's Day," and "Catholic in the Morning...Satanist at Night," it's not hard to see why I like this so much.1) Opening: Prelude to Purgatory2) Raise Your Fist, Evangelist3) Moscow After Dark4) Panic in the Pentagram5) Catholic in the Morning...Satanist at Night6) Seven Deadly Saints7) Werewolves of Armenia8) We Take the Church by Storm9) Resurrection by Erection10) Midnight Messiah11) St. Satan's Day12) Wolves Against the WorldMyspaceDownload
Centaurus-A is a new death metal band on Listenable Records. Their debut Side Effects Expected is one of my favorite albums released this year. Centaurus-A, just like every other tech death band, shows extreme influence from Necrophagist, especially in the solos. However, these guys bring something else to the table: their brand of tech death is infused with a healthy dosage of thrash.1) The Praying Mantis2) Narcotic3) Drop Off4) Morning Tremble5) The Ease6) Incident/Accident7) Arson8) Dripping Red Canvas9) Selfmade Cage10) Resistance Ain't FutileMyspaceDownload
You know those folk bands that make albums with five 10-minute songs that are super epic and awesome as hell? Yea? Finsterforst's one of those bands. Imagine Moonsorrow with a little bit more of a black metal edge and more folk instruments...oh yea, and German instead of Finnish.

This past week, I'd been listening to a lot of folk metal. I realized that this blog severely lacks any form of folk metal, so I decided to start posting some folk metal.
Falkenbach is a one-man band from Germany led by Markus Tuemmers aka Vratyas Vakyas. Vakyas' fourth full-length album is everything a blackish folk metal album should be. The songs are epic and harsh yet melodic.

Only about half the tracks on Triune Impurity Rites are actually songs. These songs have a heavy doom-ish blackened death sound to them. The rest of the tracks are short interludes that are used to create a dark atmosphere and add a melodic touch to the album. These interludes range from acoustic passages, spoken word, and ambient tracks.

Deathrash usually implies that a band's style is a mix of thrash metal and pure straight-up death metal. Final Breath on the other hand adds a bit of melody to the mix. Despite this change to the norm, the band still manages to be brutal yet melodic.1) Under Pressure2) Mind Explosion3) Killed By Lust4) Break Down5) Nondescript6) White Prison7) When Love Turns To Hate8) The Punisher9) To Live and To Die10) CarelessMyspaceDownload (Mediafire)Download (Megaupload)
